Who was it that recommended CITY OF DJINNS? I seem to remember one of the

posts had a mention of this book by William Dalrymple. I think maybe it was Mira. Anyway, just finished reading it, and it is such a great read! Absolutely smashing!!! And its got the most evocative sketches by Olivia. Great work. Strongly recommend it to all lovers of books, and lovers of history, ... well, to everyone in fact. Willaim, I have to say, is one of the most entertaining writers of non-fiction that I have come across. I find that he has the ability to take the reader on a beautuful journey which is engaging, enthralling and enriching. Thanks to him and his love for history, and his tireless research, I have been introduced to such interesting characters from different places, different ages, people who otherwise I would never have experienced. And he makes them come alive for you. The other books I have read by him are 'IN XANADU' and 'WHITE MOGHULS'. I have also attended a lecture by him on 'WHITE MOGHULS' which was really fascinating, and also very moving, remember crying through some of it.
CITY OF DJINS is a book about Delhi, and having read it I immediately want to fly there and visit all the various places and times that the book takes you through. Fascinating.
