Do you really think it's "no apparent reason"? This doesn't seem like a common form of greeting even in Hollywood! It[s the plain arrogance of Richard Gere that any woman would be honored to be squeezed like that by a white man, a Hollywood actor at that! That display was totally unnecessary. And in the socialite circles this might even pass for a casual greeting, but considering the occasion, it was totally inappropriate. They were campaigning for AIDS awareness of all the things!

Last time I checked we lived in a democracy whr ppl are free to express themselves and have fun! Gere wasnt be cheap or sleazy and was trying to provide some entertainment Bollywood style! Maybe he was being naive but as long as Shilpa wasnt having a problem, whats the harm!

Richard Gere has done more for the AIDS Campaign in India than any of the so called Indian celebrity or politician! But no body sees his genuine work. They have reduced the whole event to that stupid kiss which really is sad1
