With Valentine Days falling tomorrow, I decided to put my cynical side behind and compile a list of some of the most romantic numbers from Hindi Cinema! Here are some of my choices in no particular order. So guys if you have not got anything special for your loved one, just make a mixed tape pronto!
Kabhi Kabhi - To me this is the ultimate romantic number and generation of Indians have hummed this song to their loved ones! Some call the lyrics pure poetry. My fav rendition is the version done by Bally Sagoo and Amitabh Bachchan where Big B narrates poetry in his famous baritone voice!
Waqt Ne Kiya - From the Black and and White movie Kaagaz Ke Phool, the song has forever been immortalized in the archives of Indian Cinema. Geeta Dutt was the voice behind this melancholic song and the "beam shot" in the song sequence shot by Guru Dutt is considered a classic moment in Indian Cinema.
Tujhe Dekha - Yes no list list would be complete without a SRK number. When SRK romanced Kajol in mustard fields, the whole nation cheered! This is a modern day classic and only Lata Mangheshkar could do justice to the song!
Tere Bin - I thought its only fair that we add a recent number in this list and Tere Bin from the movie Bas Ek Pal is a great choice according to me. The song has been sung and composed by Pakistani Singer Atif who is a powerhouse of talent! Calling the song a rage would be an understatement and not a days goes when one doesn't hear it on TV, Radio etc. The song has an unbelievable emotional undercurrent and Atif has been successful in bringing a dash of melancholy to the song.
Pehla Nasha - As a die-hard Aamir Khan fan who has grown up watching all his films, I had to pick a number from any of numerous romantic films! There are many but I always had a soft corner for Pehla Nasha from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. This was Farah Khan's first choreographed number and the first time when a song was shot in slow motion! The song beautifully captures the emotions of first love and singer Udit Narayan was at the top of his game! I loved the fact that the piano was the main instrument here which is quite rare in Hindi Cinema.
