Covering Bollywood and the Hindi Cinema

While the industry is teeming with star kids, two kids everyone have their eyes on are Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor who are playing the lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya which is an adaptation of a short story titled White Nights written by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The film is a musical set in the British Raj, shot in the location of Simla.

The protagonist in the short story is a 26 year old man whose head is always in the clouds and who falls in love with a beautiful girl in St Petersburg. The movie revolves round the four days the young couple spend together. The White Nights describes the few weeks around the summer solstice in June in areas of high latitude during which darkness is never complete due to late sunsets and early sunrises.

Bhansali's adaptation will  be set in Shilma around the British Raj and he had also roped in Rani Mukherjee to play a prostitute. .White Nights has been adapted into films many times in European and American Cinema.
