India Hopes At The Oscars Squashed! Yet Again!
It is official, Rang De Basanti and Lage Raho Munnabhai are out of the Oscars race which doesn't surprise me. Bollywood has been constantly snubbed at the Oscars and its high time we stop giving importance to them! It was Lagaan which set the wheel rolling and now every year there is hysteria in the country regarding India'srangdebasantiosacr248.jpg entry to the Oscars

So while LRM and RDB are out, Deepa Mehta's Water which is the official entry from Canada is still in the race.  Personally I don't think Water has it in it, as the movie was pretty average!

The other eight films on the shortlist are Days of Glory (Algeria), After the Wedding (Denmark), Avenue Montaigne (France), The Lives of Others (Germany), Pan's Labyrinth (Mexico), Black Book (The Netherlands), Volver (Spain) and Vitus (Switzerland).

On Tuesday, January 23, the Academy will announce the final five nominees for Best Foreign Film Oscar, along with the other nominations.

Hey, Mira Nair didn't do Water, Deepa Mehta did.

That said, I didn't think RDB would get shortlisted at the Oscars. It comes from a radically different worldview than the "American cultural ethos." Lage Raho Munnbhai might have done better because Gandhi's ideas are a bit more familiar to the old folks who choose the Oscar winners--and, it had old folks in it!

Hi T-hype

tahnks for that! My bad! I dont know what I was thinking!

Hey you made two errors in your posting. Deepa Mehta directed Water and not Mira Nair.

Also Lage Raho Munna Bhai was never in the running for the best foreign language film Oscar. Each country gets to submit one entry -- and India's entry was RDB.

I know abt the deepa mehta typo but LRM was sent as an independent entry by vidhu chopra. it was all over the news
