So while LRM and RDB are out, Deepa Mehta's Water which is the official entry from Canada is still in the race. Personally I don't think Water has it in it, as the movie was pretty average!
The other eight films on the shortlist are Days of Glory (Algeria), After the Wedding (Denmark), Avenue Montaigne (France), The Lives of Others (Germany), Pan's Labyrinth (Mexico), Black Book (The Netherlands), Volver (Spain) and Vitus (Switzerland).
On Tuesday, January 23, the Academy will announce the final five nominees for Best Foreign Film Oscar, along with the other nominations.

Hey, Mira Nair didn't do Water, Deepa Mehta did.
That said, I didn't think RDB would get shortlisted at the Oscars. It comes from a radically different worldview than the "American cultural ethos." Lage Raho Munnbhai might have done better because Gandhi's ideas are a bit more familiar to the old folks who choose the Oscar winners--and, it had old folks in it!
