I still have not seen Parzania but it has sure got a lot of rave reviews. Unfortunately the movie is not being shown in Gujarat, which is unacceptable according to me. We cannot turn a blind eye to the Gujarat Massacre and it makes me wonder what the government or the film fraternity are doing to change this?
The apathetic attitude shown by the Govt. and the Film Industry is disgraceful.
When some actor gets arrested the whole industry is up in arms but sadly they never show the same kind of passion when it comes to supporting sociopolitical films!
Sure the movie may open some old wounds but wouldn't it be nice to know how these wounds were inflicted in the first place? We cannot ignore incidents like the Gujarat Riots and sweep it under the rug. Moral policing has no place in a democracy like India and its high time our Government and the moronic Censor Board realize it!
This what one theatre manager had to show when questioned about Parzania.
“If a movie hurts people I feel it should not be screened,”
However director Rahul Dholakia is unfazed and says:
"We will try for theatrical release. If we don't get theatrical releases then we will use the NGO route. We will use television, mobile vans, DVDs to screen the movie,”
"I think cinema owners must give a written statement that the censor board officials are useless and unintelligent people and they must vacate their seats. Is the legal certification process that other filmmakers go through is useless? Do the theatre owners have their own certification? This is absolutely nonsense," said Director of Drishti Media group Stalin Kurup which is a NGO.
