I thought so to. And I did tell Farhan to increase Vijay's role by two scenes. On hindsight, he was right in sacrificing Vijay's role for the sake of an interesting end. Besides, the title of the film is Don and not Vijay.
There's a scope for a sequel. Are you planning one?
Sure, I would love to make a sequel. If Farhan does not make a sequel, I will definitely make it.

There was a time we used to respect the critics, but nowadays there are more of them with less knowledge; both their criticism and appreciation should not be taken seriously. You can take the recent examples of Fanaa and Krrish . Both films were panned but look at the kind of business they have done.
The problem with critics, today, is that they feel compelled and are in a race to rip a film apart. I go by the audience viewpoint. A lot of people, especially women, did not like me in KANK and I accept and take the blame fully for it because I did not act well enough in the film. So you did have issues about KANK ?
I was happy with the film; I am never unhappy with my films. I am happy with what Karan had to do. It was brave on his part. People like him, Adi, Farhan, Raju Hirani should take chances. It's exciting to see the changes they are bringing. But if they have made something different, they should take criticism seriously to be able to do it better the next time.
What was Amitabh Bachchan's reaction to Don?
I thought he said the film was nice. He told me, "Sir, as usual aapne achcha kaam kiya hai." It's kind of Amitji to say that considering that he normally never speaks much. And if he thought it was okay, it's good enough for me.
What about the constant comparison that keeps hounding you?
People will compare. I don't like to sound pompous but the fact is that while I have accepted in my heart that Dilip Saab and Amitji have done the roles much better, I only wanted to introduce it to the younger generation.

It is because of my style, aplomb and the big-hearted person that Farhan thinks I am. He feels that like Don I am not scared to take chances. I do that because my logic for the last 17 years has been that I go everywhere alone. I don't need a father, a godfather, a cousin or any film-maker. I was made by Allah to take chances, and I have always benefited from it.
What's been your son's reaction to the film?
Oh, he has liked it. But he thinks that my kicks in the film were not as good as his.
