Sanjay Dutt's Daughter Trishala Dutt Unveiled!
Sanjay Dutt’s daughter Trishala Dutt from his first wife Richa Sharma was recently in India and here are some excerpts from a recent interview.

On Her Career
“Yes there are [acting plans]. But not in Bollywood. I’m doing much
better off in Hollywood, as I’ve got a few offers but had to turn them down due to my age and schoolwork. It was very upsetting.” ITrishalaDutt1P.jpg had to make a choice: Either sacrifice my entire life and pray the film does well. Or, I finish school and get a degree in something solid, so just in case, I have something to fall back on. I chose college over those films releasing now thSAat I could have been in.”

On Dad Sanjay Dutt:
“I have a very strong relationship with him,” she says. “Most people think he and I aren’t very close but they’re wrong. Just because I don’t see him everyday doesn’t mean me and him aren’t close. I talk to him, I’d say, every three days?” “He has a very loving and very giving heart. He loves to see other people happy. He’d rather someone else enjoy something than himself enjoying it. He may not express it, but it’s there
.”

IN DEFENSE OF SANJAY DUTT
by Dr. Leo Rebello

When Sanjay Dutt was conned by the willy Rakesh Maria, the then DCP, using his father the late Sunil Dutt to record a "private confession between father and son" into a police statement to throw him behind bars under TADA, I had said the following things : -

(a) That, applying TADA provisions to Sanjay Dutt is grave injustice, because he is not an anti-national. At the most what he did was because of insecurity - his mother having died of cancer, he taking to substance abuse due to that, his broken marriage, and the fact that late Nargis was a Muslim and the given uprising against Muslims during Bombay's worst communal riots.

(b) That, at the most he can be tried under the Arms Act based on confessional statements obtained by police by force, chicanery and deceit.

(c) That, he will be released because of inconclusive evidence.

(d) That, if he can be tried for such an offense, then Madhukar Sarpotdar and other Shiv Sainiks, who were caught red-handed with several deadly arms and ammunition, should also be tried under TADA. But the same self-serving Rakesh Maria, an adivasi Christian with big dreams now gone sour, turned a blind eye to Shiv Sena's excesses.

(e) That, Police has made a scapegoat of Sanjay Dutt to divert the media attention from police atrocities, incompetence, failure of intelligence machinery and law and order.

The recent verdict of TADA Judge Pramod Kode that Sanjay Dutt is not guilty under TADA, not guilty of conspiracy to create terror attacks, not guilty of abetting blasts, not guilty of possession of arms under TADA, but guilty under sections 3 and 7 read with section 25(1A)(1B)(a) of Arms Act for possession of an AK-56 rifle and a pistol, has established all what I said 13 years ago.

I therefore feel that Sanjay Dutt, who has now reformed as shown in Lage Raho Munnabhai (which is more or less his story), should not be further incarcerated in jail for following reasons :-

1.. The evidence against him is not conclusive and hence the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, has gone on record that the verdict will not be appealed against. Hence, to my mind, the quantum of punishment, if Sanjay is not acquitted honourably, can be offset with the 16 months that he already spent in jail and with some fine. May it be noted that the law is made for justice and jails are basically correctional institutions. Therrefore, it will be a grave injustice to further incarcerate an already reformed man, Sanjay Dutt, who was never a terrorist in the first instance.

2.. Police, by filing a false case against Sanjay Dutt under TADA, destroyed his and his family's reputation leading to Sunil Dutt's untimely death apart from heavy expenses and stress to him, his family and extended family of poor film workers. This can be recovered as damages once the case is finally decided in January 2007.

I am conscious of the fact that I will get a lot of flak for writing this candid note in defense of Munna (who is not a Bhai). But I am a Human Rights Activist and I know the competence and rampant corruption of policemen. I also know that public opinion is divided on this issue on communal lines. Hard core Hindu elements (like Gopinath Munde etc.) want him behind bars for life (holier than thou attitude), forgetting the fact that their own men (Madhukar Sarpotdar and others) were on rampage during the Bombay bomb blasts. If law has to take its course then let it be applied equally, not keeping eyes on politics or police medals.

[For additional details how Law is twisted, refer to Justice Srikrishna Commission's official report as also Justice Daud and Suresh Commission's report based on public hearing and completed within three months of the riots, on which the then Shiv Sena Govt and later the Congress Govt. have not acted upon inspite of public demand].
