We Desis love our Bollywood but do we know how it all began? What was the first ever Indian Film? Or how did the term Bollywood originate? Well here is all the gyan on Bollywood and a quick history lesson!

1) The first Full Length Indian Film was Raja Harishchandra

made by Dadasaheb Phalke in the year 1913.

2) Ardeshir Irani's Alam Ara (1931) was the First Indian Sound Film.

3) Amit Khanna a filmmaker, cinema scholar and the president of the Film & Television Guild, coined the term Bollywood.

4) The Oscar Equivalent Filmfare Awards were started in 1953 .

5) According to a recent study around 14 Million Indians visit the cinema and an estimated 4 Billion tickets are sold in India exclusively for Bollywood!

6) One research also shows that India accounts for 73% of Asia-Pacific movie admissions.
