I haven’t seen Lage Raho Munnabhai as of now but the movie has been liked by critics as well as the public. In fact it has also garnered positive reviews abroad and the newspaper Guardian has also liked this amiable movie. Check out the review after the jump.
“The title of this remarkable Bollywood romantic comedy translates as
Carry On Munna Bhai, but there is nothing remotely saucy about the humour here. The closest western comparison would be Woody Allen's Play It Again Sam, but even that is not strictly accurate: our lovelorn hero is visited by Gandhi rather than Bogie, espousing truthfulness, tolerance and non-violent protest.”
“You can't really expect subtlety in a movie in which people break into song and street scenes are transformed, seemingly at the flick of a switch, into a riot of colour with gaudy lights, balloons, pyrotechnics and gangs of dancing nuns, office workers and scholars. But the broad strokes really work. The film does not shy away from the fact that to follow Gandhi's path demands bravery and self-sacrifice. As western romantic comedies become more vapid and even stalkerish, this delivers a credible message of peace, while never forgetting to be magnificent entertainment.”
