Indian Cinema has got a new hero! No it’s not some muscle rippling dude from the posh Bombay suburbs or a starry eyed boy from a small town. Infact it’s more of an idea. The idea of ‘We the People’ whose seeds were first germinated by Ashutosh Gowariker in Swades and which were further seen in movies like Rang De Basanti and Lakshya. Lage Raho Munnabhai also takes us down to the same path but without the tears or the drama. LRM is a rib-ticking heart warming comedy and there are so many dimensions to this poignant yet funny movie. The movie actually inspires you to do something for the country and also read every thing about Mahatma Gandhi!
Thanks to Raj Kumar Hirani “Gandhigiri” is In and “Dadagiri” is Out. The
Father Of Our Nation has now captured the imagination of millions. This is the power of cinema and kudos to the whole LRM team for taking Gandhi mainstream! The interaction between Munna and Gandhi are just brilliant and both Sanjay Dutt and Dilip Prabhavalkar dazzle in their role. The supporting cast is great and the songs just flow with the movies. One of the highlights is the film’s version of Vande Mataram which gives you goose bumps as an Indian!
However this movie is not just a commentary on the apathy of the Indian society. It’s also about relationships and how fragile the human race is. The old men in the movie were just incredible and after watching them one just wants to rush home and hug one’s grandparents and parents! It goes without saying that the movie will have you in splits and that is why I am focusing on the other aspects of the movie.
When it comes to performances the whole cast comes through but Arshad Warsi as Circuit steals the show! His body language and his expressions are not to be missed and Warsi successfully holds his own against big wigs like Boman Irani and Sanjay Dutt. Vidya Balan comes as a breath of fresh air in an Industry which is full of actresses with implants, highlighted hair and skirts which are getting shorter by the second! She reminds me of Madhuri Dixit at times and is as natural as Juhi Chawla!
So in a nutshell my two cents? Go watch the movie with your whole family as seldom do we come across a film which makes us laugh, cry and also gives us full gyan on Mahatma Gandhi! This one is not to be missed and is even better than the Original which is quite a feat don’t you think? This is just not a comedy, it is a Great Indian Film!
Aurrgh! I'm so pissed I missed out on this one...
