We have talked about Bollywood going corporate and how the process of filmmaking is going through transformation with the advent of big production houses. Looks like it’s just not the filmmaking departing undergoing change and now even music companies are taking steps, to make sure there are no legal ramifications later on.
Take for instance Saregama HMV, which is doing away with the prevailing system of royalties (or lack of it) where singers had to long for royalties. The company plans to assign Rs 1 crore every month as royalty to deserving artistes and considering they own the largest music archives in , that’s a mammoth task to say the least! Subroto Chattopadhyay, head of entertainment wing of RPG claims that about 6,000 contracts have be digitized and plans are underway to market older works. This announcement will surely go down well with musicians who have at time been neglected thoroughly!
