Covering Bollywood and the Hindi Cinema

I remember reading somewhere how the former film giant Bharat Shah was against the general corporatization of the film industry as it involved contracts, lawyers etc something he claimed an artist should never deal with. While there is some truth in his perspective, overall film production companies like Sahara, Adlabs or UTV have been a blessing in disguise. If it wasn’t for Sahara, a movie like Phir Milenge in all probability wouldn’t have been made. Or can you imagine the Hindi film history without Swades? Not only was UTV behind that movie but was also behind the path breaking Rang de Basanti.

Now UTV has announced two new projects and this time they do not involve any big stars however that doesn’t mean they are not good! Both movies have a bunch of talented actors who have carved their niche in independent or parallel cinema. The first movie in the pipeline is METRO which would star Shiney Ahuja, Shilpa Shetty, Rajat Kapoor, Konkona Sen and Irrfan Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kangana and has been directed by Anurag Basu. The second movie is called HAT-TRICK which stars Nana Patekar, Naseerudin Shah, Hema Malini, Paresh Rawal, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi and Rimii Sen. Milan Luthria will be the director.
