Covering Bollywood and the Hindi Cinema

Bollywood has never had it so good, not only are the cash registers ringing but the movies are getting critical acclaim. The line between good cinema and commercial cinema is finally getting blurred and Bollwyood is breaking away from all sorts of tags! We may not be completely there but today’s cinema is more of an amalgamation of different strands of thoughts than the so called masala mixture! People are again going to the theatre and not sticking to the pirated DVDs. Many reason are touted for this, however the main being is ‘Packaging’.

We are a nation which has woken up to the power of advertisement and these days movie trailers just don’t give you a glimpse of the feature film. They are now made to pull in the viewer from the very beginning and most of the time the teaser is found to be better than the movie! Another reason is the star cast no doubt, but the audience no longer will buy a 150Rs ticket (urban cities) just to see his favorite stars. The audience now demands a full package where the story, the director and the songs should also hold his attention! So looks like things Bollwyood is finally in a transformation stage where the script, the packaging and the marketing is as vital as a Roshan or a Khan!
