Covering Bollywood and the Hindi Cinema

One movie not to be missed in the coming days is Omkara the Indian adaptation of William Shakespeare’s 17th century classic, “Othello”. The director Vishal Bhardwaj shot to fame with debut film Maqbool which was an adaptation of Macbeth. This time Vishal’s story revolves around political warfare in UP and Ajay Devgan plays Omkara or Omi, a leader of a group of outlaws. Saif plays Langda Tyagi (Iago) and Vivek is Kesu Firangi. After Omi appoints Kesu instead of Langda as his chief lieutenant all hell breaks loose. The diabolical Langda falsely implicates Omi’s lover Dolly in an affair with Kesu. Thus the drama begins and Vishal interprets Othello is his own unique style. My reason for watching would be Saif in his evil avatar and the rustic music! What is yours?
