They say ignorance is bliss and this certainly holds true in Aishwarya Rai’s case. I am pretty sure that the actress is unaware that her classic Bengali film Choker Bali is being marketed as a sleazy film down south! How have they managed that? Well the Tamil version which has been titled Aishwarya Rai ..Ulaga Azhagi’ and the distributers have put up images of Aishwarya’s bare back all over! For the uninitiated the movie revolves around the Aishwarya who is an unscrupulous widow who tries to seduce her best friend’s husband. A period film, Choker Bali also highlighted the conditions of widows in Bengal and like all Rituparno Ghosh films human desperation. Rai also garnered a lot of critical acclaim (rightfully) for her performance. Unfortunately the movie has been grossly represented by the Tamil distributers!
