A few years ago the words like Bollywood and Corporate (not the movie) just didn’t go together. However all this is changing and Bollywood is definitely in a transition stage. I had written about the general corporatization of Bollywood and now more and more film-makers are jumping into this bandwagon. Adlabs Films have been creating quite a buzz since its foray into the Bollywood world. Now news has just poured in that they have signed Vipul Shah for 210 Crores where he has to make 12 films in 3 years. Ram Gopal Verma has also been signed up by Adlabs for 100 Crores where has to make 10 films in 2 years! Sahara One has also signed up Madhur Bhandarkar for three films however the amount hasn’t been disclosed.
While the directors euphoric and in heaven regarding these new trends some people also feel that this would hamper creativity as there is so much pressure to perform. However the head honchos at these corporate firms believe that they don’t restrict the film-makers in fact free them from the hassles of finding funds and other nittie gritties. So there are no loser only winners. While I feel both sides have valid points film-making is also an art and shouldn’t be overpowered by business and there should be a balance ! So what do you think am I being an idealist ?
