Bollywood is no longer the poor cousin of Hollywood. The puritans may hate the term Bollywood however I’m sorry to say we are stuck with this term forever! On the bright side it sounds so much better than Lollywood or Pollywood (other south Asian industries).
The term Bollywood itself conjures many images to different people. For the non Indian or the firangi it is one big melodramatic musical. For the previous generation like my parents it was something which just wasn’t cool enough and for this gen it’s a way of life. The Bollywood influence is all over, be it weddings, fashion, nightclubs or the media.
No longer is it uncool to watch Hindi movies in Urban India and the Shah Rukh or the John poster adorns the same wall which has a Brad Pitt poster . No longer are the films 3 hours long. No longer are the movies restricted to the subcontinent and now are being accepted globally. No longer is it mandatory to have the usual song and dance routine.
Finally Bollywood just like India is in a transformation period and is incorporating the best of both worlds. While our films are becoming more global that doesn’t mean we have altered our essence of film making. Thus it is this Neo-Bollywood which I want to keep you up to speed with and I will cover a wide variety of topics like Bollywood news, deals, reviews, collaboration etc. So here’s to a great Bollywood blog which we shall see growing in true Bollywood "ishtyle'!
